The Longhouse at Threave

Luxury Holiday Cottage in Scotland

The Longhouse at Threave sleeps up to 8 guests in 4 bedrooms, 2 doubles( one of which is King size), 1 twin and 1 room with bunk beds. The downstairs double is en-suite. The bunk room and main bathroom are also downstairs. Upstairs is the twin room, double room and shower room. The house because of its design suits small families as well as larger groups of friends.

The Longhouse was newly built and finished in 2014 so you will experience the house in excellent condition. The living space is open plan with a dramatic double hieght ceiling in the seating area. The glazing along the south facing wall fills the space with light and offers great views across the Galloway countryside.

The house was designed by Hebridean Homes and is based on the traditional longhouse of the west coast of Scotland.  It has underfloor heating on the ground floor, and radiators upstairs. The upstairs shower room has electric underfloor heating. There is an attractive wood- burning stove in the  lounge area. Downstairs are an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area. There is a 42" smart TV in the lounge (the house has free wifi). The kitchen has a built- in large single oven, an integrated microwave, dishwasher and fridgefreezer. Glazing along the length of the open plan area, which faces south, offers wonderful views. Also downstairs is a bathroom with showerbath, a double bedroom with en -suite and a further bedroom with bunk beds. Each of these bedrooms has ample built- in wardrobes. A utility room off the entrance hall has a sink, a washing machine and a condensing tumble drier.
Upstairs there is a room with king-size bed and another bedroom with two single beds and a shower room with toilet. These bedrooms also have large built- in wardrobes. We are in the process of finishing our games room which is adjacent to the house.  It will have a snooker and table tennis table. We have a hot tub on the patio and also a large barbeque.

There is free fishing on a stretch of the river Dee; salmon, trout, pike and perch have all been caught only  400 metres from the house.    Regretfully we cannot take pets but we have two very friendly Shetland ponies Bumble Bee and Dragon Fly in the nearby paddock.

Our changeover day is normally a Friday but we are flexible especially during mid and low season. Guests can move in from 4pm on the day of arrival and if possible should vacate by 10am on the day of departure. Three and four night breaks are normally only offered in mid and low season but again we are flexible.

News

The BBC Country File's Magazine readers have voted Dumfries and Galloway the top UK holiday destination 2016.

Their expert Dixe Wills described Dumfries and Galloway as "an overlooked corner whose time has come."
Readers voted resoundingly for Dumfries and Galloway due to its plentiful charms.....tranquil forests, astonishing wildlife, wonderful beaches, lochs and streams, plus the UK's original Dark Sky Park.
Its not utterly isolated from human enterprise either...Kirkcudbright pulses with artistic life, Castle Douglas brims with foodie delights and Wigton rivals Ross on Wye as a book lovers haven. Not to mention Moniave Britain's coolest village.
Dixe said "Congratulations Dumfries and Galloway, I'm sure the good poeple will enjoy sharing it's many delights with the lucky visitors who discover the region for the first time this year."

I have noticed that our booking calendar only shows the correct price for 7 or 3 night stays if you click to start your holiday on a Friday. Likewise it only shows the true cost of 4 night stays if you click on a Monday. Outwith high season we are flexible with start dates. Please just ask.
